Arkansas Ophthalmological Society
About the AOS

  • The Arkansas Ophthalmological Society is a non-profit organization founded in 1978 to promote and advance the science and art of medical eye care. Current membership is 81 physicians.

  • The headquarters of the AOS are located in Little Rock.

  • The AOS was named a "Model State Society" in 1988 by the American Academy of Ophthalmology and in 1998, received the Academy's One Vision One Voice award for legislative advocacy by establishing political "key contacts" for state legislators, for implementing an action plan for political campaign support, and for raising more than the suggested amount of contributions.

  • The AOS provides continuing medical education programs for members.

  • The AOS provides representation to various legislative, regulatory and associative bodies including:

    • US Congress
    • US Health Care Financing Administration
    • American Academy of Ophthalmology
    • Arkansas legislature
    • Arkansas Medical Society
    • Various state regulatory agencies
